[TW: apologism]

But so often, “creating drama” is a phrase that people use when they want someone who has been a victim of something to shut up. It allows them to blame the victim for bringing the problem to their attention and making them feel bad while glossing over the fact that the drama was really created by the victimizER back when they did bad things. The friend group gets all caught up in issues of “fairness” and “logic” and “It was so long ago, why are you dredging it all up now?” and treating the victim’s feelings (or, again, quite rational & reasonable request to not have to sit next to one’s rapist at dinner) as illogical and unreasonable.

Someone who accuses you of “creating drama” in this case is basically saying that abusing & raping one’s partner might be bad, but making people feel weird about it at parties is worse.

#393: My friends keep inviting my abusive ex and me to the same parties, despite being asked directly not to. (via slutwalkseattle)

The whole post is really good, especially if you need a refresher course in How Not To Be Horrible

(via poorlifechoicesblog)

Community abuse & rape apologism is something that abusers WILL & DO rely on to allow their abuse to continue & to push the victim into spaces where they cannot talk about any past abuses that transpired. Read this whole post and work on NEVER being a friend who asks someone to hang out with their rapist or abuser.

TRIGGER WARNING: RAPE

The asshole holding the sign that says You Deserve Rape is Dean Saxton, he attends the University of Arizona and goes by the name of “Brother Dean Samuel”  That’s also him with the racist ass “Ghettopoly”

Per the comment on Buzzfeed

“I can’t wait till he graduates college and a future employer finds all this crap. No one’s going to want to take on this sexual harassment/racist liability. I say we KEEP publishing this stuff, KEEP his name out there, and ensure he dies in a gutter with only his disgusting sign to keep him warm.”

What better place to put it than tumblr?

I did this so quickly. learned just today that 2 sexual assaults happened in my high school district while I was a sophomore… 2 years after they essentially taught us girls that if we got sexually assaulted, it was out fault. The principal tried to cover it up and the assaulter only got benched during the sport for a while. the victims got blamed and hurt by their peers. it’s what they were taught to do, anyways.

I feel too tired to move.

I told myself that when I graduated high school, I would write the school a letter. I regret that I never did.

how about stop sexual violence against everyone?

If I posted, say, an image such as this:

Would that make you think about bisexual women? Would it make you aware of the fact that we suffer from disproportionate amounts of sexual violence?
No? Thought so.

Ethiopian girl guarded from gang rape & assault by three lions.
“The girl had been taken by seven men who wanted to force her to marry one of them. She was beaten repeatedly. Then the lions chased off her captors. The three lions guarded her for about half a day. They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest.”
Then, Stuart Williams (the local wildlife ‘expert’) suggests that perhaps the lions mistook the 12 year old girl’s cries for a lion cub. Which seems awfully silly, considering that lions are perfectly capable of telling apart the gazelles they eat from their own cubs, aren’t they?

and for those interested, you can find the report HERE

Just in case any dudebros are unclear on what this means: it means that your buddy who totally just had some bitch trying to ruin his life by accusing him of rape…almost certainly actually did rape her.

Just keep that in mind.

Yeah man, imagine that, bitches don’t be lying.

Can we put this into context? It means that 99.4% of rape allegations are true

It means that 99.4% of rape allegations are true.

“Army rape victim…testified about how a military chaplain told her the alleged rape “was God’s will” and was intended to “get my attention so I would go back to church”
“The military criminal justice system is broken,” she said. “I feared retaliation before and after I reported, the investigative process severely re-traumatized me, many of the institutional systems set up to help failed me miserably, my perpetrator went unpunished despite admitting to a crime, and commanders were never held accountable for making the choice to do nothing,” Havrilla said.
She finally reported it after a friend told her the accused rapist had posted photographs of her, taken during the rape, on the Internet. “I felt that my rape was always going to haunt me unless I did something about it,” she said, so she reported it to Army authorities.
Ultimately, the accused rapist admitted to having consensual sex. As a married soldier, he should have been charged with adultery, but the case was closed without charges, she said.
“What we need is a military with a fair and impartial criminal justice system, one that is run by professional and legal experts, not unit commanders,” Havrilla said. “We also need an additional system that allows military victims to access civil courts if the military system fails them.”

Can someone who is a vegan explain to me

embracingthefuture:

Why you don’t eat anything animal based, such as milk and cheese and ice cream? I’m not aware if it hurts the animals or not, I wouldn’t think so, but I’m curious as to why that is?

Like any mammal, cows only produce milk after giving birth, to feed their young. This means that dairy cows must be artificially inseminated, involving forced penetration of the vagina and rectum. To achieve this, the industry uses what are commonly referred to as ‘rape racks’. When their child is born, they’re either killed, sent to a veal crate and killed after a few months of confinement, or kept to be integrated into the herd. Essentially, if you’re drinking cows’ milk, calves aren’t. Because they’re forced to produce such large quantities of milk daily, these cows will go lame at around four years of age, and are sent to the slaughter house to die. Cows live naturally for about 15 years, but this way they end up as cheap burgers from the likes of McDonald’s.

Cows have been found to be highly sociable. They form lifelong friendships and hold grudges, they bond strongly to their children, and they actually show excitement when they learn something new. There’s no difference between a cow and a dog or cat. So why eat one and play with the other?

Further, milk has actually been proven to be bad for the human body, and actually increases the rates of osteoporosis and cancer. (cit) Also, personally I just don’t understand why we need cows’ milk  if we don’t need things like dog milk or giraffe milk. Once we’re weaned off our own mothers’ milk, we don’t need it again, so I’d prefer not to consume things I don’t need to. Especially when they come with the added concequences of death, pollution, climate change and destruction of the environment, and negative health effects.

Hope this helps!

[TW: rape culture]
How porn is implicated in rape is complex and multilayered. Clearly, not all men who use porn rape, but what porn does is create what some feminists call a “rape culture” by normalizing, legitimizing, and condoning violence against women. In image after image, violent and abusive sex is presented as hot and deeply satisfying for all parties. These messages in porn chip away at the social norms that define violence against women as deviant and unacceptable, norms that are already constantly under assault in a male-dominated society. In most mass-produced images a woman has no bodily integrity, boundaries, or borders that need to be respected. Combined, these images tell us that violation of these boundaries is what she seeks out and enjoys. This is one among many rape myths that porn disseminates to users. Embedded in porn are numerous other myths, all of which seek to present sexual assault as a consensual act rather than an act of violence.

Tehmina Durrani | The Woman Behind The Revolution [x]

Tehmina Durrani is a Pakistani author and activist. For 13 years, she was married to Ghulam Mustafa Khar, the former Governor of Punjab and one of the most powerful men in the country during the 70s and 80s. She chronicled her marriage in the 1991 book, My Feudal Lord, where she describes the abuse, torture, rape and humiliation she suffered at the hands of Khar.

She faced criticism not only for speaking out against Khar, but also for staying in the marriage for 13 years and having children with him. Reviews of the book to this day disparage her for not leaving sooner or seeking help or doing more to protect her children, despite Khar commanding tremendous power and influence. On page 156, she writes: “What could the police do? They would admonish Mustafa, but sooner or later I would be alone with him, in a worse predicament than before. My silence was not to protect Mustafa; it was to protect myself.”

In 1997, Ghulam Mustafa Khar’s son, Bilal, married a woman named Fakhra Yunus. She too suffered physical abuse at the hands of her husband and escaped after three years to return to her mother’s home. However, in April 2000, Bilal Khar tracked her down and threw acid in her face while she slept. After being released from the hospital, she returned to Bilal and reached out to Tehmina Durrani for help. Tehmina intervened and took Fakhra into her own house despite facing death threats from the Khar family.

Tehmina Durrani is now the author of several books and an activist for Pakistani women and rights of the poor. Her efforts to help Fakhra were detailed in a 2001 Time Magazine article entitled “The Evil That Men Do” which also contained this iconic graphic photograph of the two of them. Fakhra Younus committed suicide on March 17, 2012 at the age of 33. Bilal Khar was acquitted of all charges.
